George Maurice Crow, 1877-1931

George Maurice Crow was born August 13, 1877 in Bloomington, McLean Co., Illinois, the child of Professsor George Rush Crow and Elizabeth Morris Kanaga Crow. At the age of 5 he moved with his family to Los Angeles where he attended public schools. In 1901 he graduated from University of Pennsylvania Dental Department and returned to California to practice dentistry. On June 4, 1903 he married Edna Clara Davenport, daughter of James Percy Davenport and Arletta Francella Hawver. He was active in the dental community as President of the Board of Dental Examiners of California. He was also a fine artist and designed unique jewelry in his spare time. In 1922 the family moved to “Crow's Nest,” in the foothills of Glendora, California, where he died on October 6, 1931 at age 54 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

Dr. Crow and his wife had four children:
Virginia F. was born on Jan. 4,1905 and died, unmarried, on March 8, 1933 in Los Angeles, at age 28 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

Elisabeth Davenport was born Oct 14, 1906, married Calvert Norland, and died in Spring Valley California on April 13, 1993 at age 86. They had one son, Karl Eric Norland, (21 June 1933-11 June 1969) who never married.

George Philip born Aug.18, 1911.  He married to (1) Winifred Blakeley and (2) Lois E. Pinnell and died August 30, 1955 age 44 in Kern Co. Calif. He had two sons, Walter Maurice and George Philip, Jr. both deceased.

Barbara Dell born 25 June 1916, married James Turner Harlan, Jr., and died December 1995 in Jay, Oklahoma, age 79. They had three children, all still living.

Elizabeth Morris Kanaga Crow died in South Pasadena, California on Apr. 17, 1922 and is buried, along with most of the family, at Angeles Rosedale Cemetery in downtown Los Angeles in the Crow/Davenport/Kanaga plots.

Edna Clara Davenport Crow was born in California on Feb. 24, 1880 and died April 29, 1969 in Oxnard, Ventura Co, California at age 89.
